Window Mapping Film

Bring windows into the projection-mapped image.

On untreated clear glass, projected light can pass through rather than appear as part of the building’s facade. Window Mapping Film provides a light-catching surface on compatible glass, helping projected imagery become visible across the window areas.

Exterior application: For the intended window-mapping use, film is applied to the outside of suitable windows. Verify glass construction, surface coatings, film choice and exterior installation suitability for every project.

Before film / after film

Make the windows part of the picture.

When a projected design moves over a building, untreated clear windows can interrupt otherwise continuous artwork. Suitably selected film can provide a surface that catches projected light, helping imagery appear across the glass. The precise result depends on the projector, glazing, film and lighting.

Clear glass can allow projected light to pass through, leaving portions of the windows less visible within a mapped facade.

Compatible film can catch more projected light on the windows and help maintain a continuous visual impression.

Catch projected light

Help mapped content appear on compatible glass instead of passing through.

Keep the facade connected

Reduce visually empty window areas in a larger architectural composition.

Preserve some visibility

Use a film designed to retain transparency when projection is not active; exact appearance varies.

Plan for installation

Evaluate film selection, glazing, weather, access and approved application method.

Applications

From seasonal displays to landmark facades.

01 · Residential

Halloween and holiday projection

Plan a full-home projection effect when front windows interrupt the projected image. Confirm the homeowner’s glazing and seasonal installation requirements.

02 · Commercial

Storefronts and displays

Bring large glass sections into a projected retail or promotional composition, with attention to pedestrian visibility and local installation requirements.

03 · Architectural

Building projection mapping

Maintain the design intent across architectural facades with windows, while evaluating access, glazing, film performance and the projection geometry.

Professional and architectural projects

Window Mapping Film goes beyond the home.

For commercial and architectural projection mapping, suitable glass film can help large window areas participate in the projected design. Projector power, viewing position, glazing type, weather exposure and manufacturer installation guidance require project-specific review.

The building-and-whale illustration shows a possible creative direction, not a guaranteed result or actual installation.

Before selecting a film

Four checks for a successful window-mapping plan.

  1. Glass type and coatings. Identify the actual glazing, any exterior treatments, laminates or low-emissivity coatings, and obtain glass/film compatibility confirmation.
  2. Exterior location. Confirm the correct film, weather exposure, cleaning method, access and installation temperature requirements.
  3. Projector and image. Review projector brightness, throw, ambient light, image geometry and the intended viewing side.
  4. Installer and maintenance. Confirm application procedures, service, removal expectations and all manufacturer instructions before installation.
Process

Plan the facade before installing film.

01. Map the surfaces

Identify every glass area that intersects the projected design, noting window sizes, surface features and access restrictions.

02. Review the materials

Confirm the correct exterior film and installation method for each compatible glazing surface and intended project life.

03. Align the projection

Prepare the projector and mapping content, evaluate the image under real lighting conditions and refine alignment after installation.

Roll formats and installation support

Plan the right amount of film.

Screen Solutions International publishes a standard film width of 49 inches, roll lengths from 10 to 100 feet, and custom roll options. Determine actual material quantities and installation planning from measured window areas, orientation and project access.

Common questions

Questions to answer before film selection.

Does Window Mapping Film go on the outside of the window?

For the approved exterior window-mapping approach described here, yes: installation is planned on the outside of compatible glass. The exact film, window and manufacturer instructions must be confirmed before application.

Will every window work?

No universal compatibility is assumed. Glass type, coatings, solar exposure, location and the film’s installation specifications must be reviewed together.

Does film make a window completely opaque?

Do not assume that. The goal is to help glass catch projected light. Transparency, haze, brightness and appearance vary by film and viewing conditions; approve the actual product data before making performance guarantees.

Can I submit an inquiry through this website?
